„ n <br /> CtVtC CULTURAL COMMISStON <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDc�,Y, SEPTEMBER 2, 1999 <br /> COMMISStONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Redington, Commissioners <br /> Britschgi, Commissioners Dale, Del Carlo, <br /> Pierce, Saye, and Schenone (arrived 7:06pm) <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Paula Uccelli, Andrew Frisch, Susan Swope, Nick Watry, <br /> Dave McClure <br /> STAFF PRESE�VT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Oliver Redington at 7:OOpm in Room 1 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> A correction was made to the August minutes under "Announcements”; the <br /> date of Commission Pierce's kick-off event should be August 10. <br /> M/S Del CarlolBritschgi: To approve the �4ugust minutes as corrected. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Superintendent Centeno reviewed the following correspondence received: <br /> -A letter from Vintage Music Theater and their request to change the number <br /> of performances from 3 to 2 regarding their FY99-00 Grant Request of <br /> 52,500.00. <br /> -A letter from Redwood Symphony thanking the Commission for their grant <br /> for the fiscat year 1999-2000. <br /> -A letter from the Redwood City Kiwanis Club thanking the Commission for <br /> its FY99-00 grant request and a listing of musical groups who will be <br /> performing at the Kiwanis Farmers Market during 1999. <br /> -A flyers from ARTshare for "Sound Off III" to be held on Saturday, <br /> September 25 from 8:30am to 12:OOpm at San Mateo City Hall. <br /> -Newsletters from Veterans Memorial Senior Center, San Mateo County Arts <br /> Council, Sequoia Art Group. <br /> ORAL GOMMUNICATIONS <br /> Redwood City International founding member Paula Uccelli and President <br /> Andrew Frisch spoke regarding the jade ship given as a gift from Zhuhai, <br /> China as part of the Sister City program. Mrs. Uccelli stated she is <br /> concerned about its location in the second floor gallery of City Hall where <br /> there is no lighting on the art piece. She wanted to bring this information to <br /> the Commission's attention and stated she would like to see the jade boat <br /> moved to a more accessible location. Mr. Frisch spoke about giving the <br /> piece more accessibility to further support the relationship with our Sister <br /> City. Mrs. Uccelli felt the Commission should ask for more input into the <br />
