MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. City Council Member Reports of Conferences Attended <br /> Council Member Pierce announced she received a note from the General Manager of <br /> Bay Area Water Supply Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) regarding water usage. She <br /> regularly meets with the SFPUC (San Francisco Public Utilities Commission) to review <br /> the level of water use reductions. There were news reports that Governor Brown might <br /> require a 20 percent reduction. The SFPUC reported that BAWSCA, which includes <br /> Redwood City, is on target to show a reduction of 10 percent and the SFPUC will <br /> continue to request another 10 percent reduction and monitor it. It is still voluntary, but <br /> he would like to encourage people to be thoughtful on their water usage. <br /> This Council Member also noted that Supervisor Dave Pine and Congresswoman <br /> Jackie Speier will be hosting a Sea Level Rise event and she will attend. She also said <br /> that in July the Board of Supervisors will have a meeting regarding homelessness and <br /> she plans to attend it. <br /> Council Member Howard was at Hoover School to celebrate with members of the Police <br /> Department and the neighborhood the new cameras and lights that went over the <br /> footbridge across Woodside Road. She explained that this is the route students take to <br /> school and it was dark and sometimes scary. She noted that the parents went to the <br /> Police Department to advocate for their children's safety. She commended the students, <br /> the School Board, neighbors, and the Police Department for the work done to increase <br /> safety. She thanked the Police Department, Public Works, IT, and all the others. She <br /> was overwhelmed to see the tears and the joy from the parents. <br /> Vice Mayor Foust left the dais. <br /> Council Member Bain attended the Public Safety Night at the Elks Lodge that <br /> recognized Police Officers and Firefighters. He mentioned the retirement of Lt. Jim <br /> Stoney. He also attended the Emergency Services Council event and the main issue <br /> discussed was the drought. He mentioned how some places were closing, because <br /> creeks have dried up and there is severe reduction of water. Council Member Bain <br /> noted the Burlingame Neighborhood Network that is similar to active network down here <br /> and certain alumni. They talked about how they can standardize the networks <br /> throughout the County and each City. He also attended the Pre - hospital Emergency <br /> Services Joint Powers Authority Board meeting. They adopted their budget for 2014- <br /> 2015 and part of that was the communication systems upgrade. <br /> This Council Member said that he read some comments regarding Saltworks and how <br /> the developer is working with federal agencies and is planning to come back to the City <br /> with an application. He doesn't know how long it will take, but he doesn't want to <br /> entertain any proposal without determining what the public wants. He feels that this <br /> should be led by the City.
