5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Presentation -AAA Donation of$5,000 to the Redwood City Fire <br /> Department's Emergency Preparedness -Jim Skinner, Fire Chief and <br /> Stan Maupin, Deputy Fire Chief <br /> Brendon Haumea and Paulette Sanfilipo from the AAA Northern California, Nevada & <br /> Utah branches presented the check to the Redwood City's Fire Department. The Mayor <br /> expressed sincere gratitude for this gesture, and Fire Department staff confirmed this <br /> will be used for a great cause. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> David McCallum spoke about the fifth annual "Romancing the Creek" event and how 60 <br /> people showed up and they removed 1,000 pounds of trash out of creek in two hours. <br /> He thanked City Council and the City for the support and help, which included providing <br /> bags, a boat from the Port and personnel from both the Port and Public Works. He said <br /> they learned how to do this event from Council Member Howard and the Pride and <br /> Beautification Committee. He spoke in favor of the positive impact of the plastic bag <br /> ban has had since there used to be plastic bags "everywhere", but since the ban, they <br /> only had one plastic bag in three months. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked the team that worked on organizing the "Romancing the Creek" <br /> event and Mr. McCallum for his feedback regarding the plastic bag ban. <br /> Amy Buckmaster, Redwood City San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce Chief <br /> Executive Officer, congratulated Vice Mayor Rosanne Foust on being named the <br /> Chambers' 2013 Person of the Year with her husband Jim Harnett, former Mayor at <br /> their annual dinner last month. She noted that this is the Chambers' highest most <br /> prestigious award that was created in 1970 to recognize those who do more than <br /> anyone else and had the greatest impact on the Chairman's success for that year. <br /> Criteria for the award included overall enthusiasm, willingness to accept multiple tasks <br /> and commitment and dedication to the success of their assignments. She also <br /> announced that they will have the State of City Address this Friday, February 28, 2014 <br /> at the Oracle Conference Center with both the Mayor and Vice Mayor speaking and <br /> tickets are still available online at www.redwoodcitychamber.com <br /> Mayor Gee congratulated Vice Mayor Foust and former Mayor Hartnett on this <br /> accomplishment. <br /> 7.
