RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> CENTER OPERATIONS <br /> Red Morton Center <br /> Two trips were scheduled for the month of August . On the 12th , the teen <br /> group went horseback riding at the Seahorse Ranch ineHaHalf Moon Bay . <br /> After the ride , they had a barbecue lunch a t Dunes <br /> The second trip of the month was to the Santa Cruz Beach & Boardwalk . <br /> The group spent most of the day riding the roller coaster , bumper cars <br /> and jet star . <br /> On August 2 , the Red Morton Center hosted seventy-three ( 73 ) Junior <br /> High and High School students from Carson City , Nevada . The Carson <br /> City Recreation Department brings a group of teens to the Bay Area <br /> each summer and spends a night at the center after visiting Great <br /> America and Marine World . We have been invited to use their facili - <br /> ties if we are ever in that area . <br /> The Center concluded a successful nine-week summer playground program <br /> August 19 . The program provided structured activities for Tiny Tots <br /> ( ages 3-5 ) grade schoolers , Junior High Students and Teens . <br /> The activities were designed to be fun and entertaining while develop- <br /> ing the self-esteem and character of the participant . We feel our <br /> leaders did an excellent job of making each participant feel good <br /> about himself as a person . <br /> Veterans Memorial Building <br /> In an attempt to organize more activities for retarded adults on the <br /> Peninsula , the Peninsula Association for Retarded Children and Adults <br /> ( PARCA) hosted a meeting on August 3rd at their offices in San Mateo . <br /> Invited were recreation specialists in Therapeutic Recreation Services <br /> from Redwood City , San Carlos , San Mateo and San Bruno ( all having <br /> current programs in Therapeutic Recreation ) . Among the many topics <br /> discussed was the idea of a monthly Friday night dance and social . <br /> San Carlos and Redwood City consented to share the responsibilities <br /> of these dances for the south Peninsula on a coordinated basis . The <br /> first dance will take place at the Veterans Memorial Building on <br /> September 16th in the Redwood Room . Music will be by records . In <br /> October , San Carlos will host a dance with themes related to Halloween . <br /> The northern section of the County will host dances to service the <br /> people in that area . Co-hosts will be San Mateo and San Bruno Parks <br /> and Recreation . <br /> - 11 - <br />
