RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT
COMMUNITY LEISURE SERVICES
Summer Playgrounds
The playgrounds went very well this summer with an average daily atten-
dance of 32 participants per site . A rough summer participation total
is 7 sites at 32 participants per site times 39 program days or 8 , 700
summer participants . This figure roughly indicates a 700 participant
increase over last year .
Canyon Park ( this year ' s newest program addition ) proved successful
with an average attendance of 38 . Leaders with a strong nature orien-
tation were assigned to Canyon Park with a moto-cross , construction of
"no name city" and a western theme Penny Carnival among the summer
highlights .
Most of our trips were successful with the exception of the Winchester
Mystery House- Lake Vasona Park trip .
We will continue to evaluate our program sites , trips and special
events each summer in order to up-grade our programming efforts .
Day Camp
One of the most successful summers ever . The staff did an excellent
job programming . An example of their efforts was the final week of
Tiny Timbers when the staff planned each day with a special theme .
Visitors that helped make that " theme " come alive included : Mother
Nature , Smokey the Bear , Black Beard the Pirate and Black Bart the
Outlaw .
Every camp session was filled and the overnights were filled with
parent hour , evening hikes , cook outs and stories .
This fall we will evaluate the program fee ' s and charges to insure
that all campers can continue to enjoy this outdoor adventure .
Wilderness Camp
While this program continues to be outstanding - it is increasingly
difficult to fill each session .
We again worked out an agreement with the School District whereby
they would send 50 to 60 summer school participants per week . We
averaged 37 per week . We had a total of 298 participants or 22 less
than last year .
- 13-
