RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> OCTOBER 1977 <br /> CENTER OPERATIONS & SPECIAL INTEREST CLASSES . . <br /> The Annual Redwood City Budgie Show was held at the Community Activi - <br /> ties Building on October 8 and 9 , with participants coming from all <br /> over California . <br /> Casa de Adobe Nursery School rented the C . A . B . for their annual bazaar <br /> on October 22 and 23 . <br /> Fall special interest classes were well received with only three classes <br /> being cancelled due to low registrations . The new square dance class <br /> being conducted by the Longhorns Square Dance Club under the Department ' s <br /> auspices at Kennedy School had 39 participants . A new bicycle mainten- <br /> ance class held this fall on Sundays had 15 students . <br /> Hoover School Project <br /> The Hoover School Community Recreation Project was funded by CETA the <br /> end of August and recruitment for a project director began in September . <br /> Dane Jones was hired as Director and began work on October 10 . His <br /> office is at Hoover School and he is currently working on establishing <br /> relationships within the school and the community and developing noon- <br /> time , after- school and evening recreation programs for the students . <br /> CETA is now recruiting for 2 fulltime recreation leaders to provide <br /> leadership for implementing the programs and activities . <br /> Veteran ' s Memorial Building <br /> Redwood City Community Theater ' s production " Star Spangled Girl " opened <br /> in the theater on Saturday , October 29 , and will continue on November <br /> 4 and 5 , at 8 : 30 p . m . <br /> Red Morton Recreation Center <br /> After some research , it was felt by the recreation staff that there is <br /> very little for teens to do on Friday evenings . Thus , starting in <br /> October , the Red Morton Center will be open from 7 - 9 p . m . to provide <br /> structured programs as well as occasional dances . <br /> New windows have been placed on the east side of the Red Morton Center . <br /> They are the type of windows that can be opened to provide ventilation <br /> and are constructed of a heavey duty material that is supposed to be <br /> less vulnerable to breakage from the balls . <br /> - 10- <br />
