PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT
DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
OCTOBER 1977
Red Morton Park
The applications for State funding for the Phase IV development of Red
Morton Park is currently being reviewed by the State Liason Officer
assigned to work with our City . In the meantime , the Parks & Recrea-
tion Commission has accepted the staff ' s recommendation to proceed
with the planning for the Phase IV work and utilize the services of
the landscape architectural firm of Singer & Hodges . They will be
involved in the design and construction of the picnic areas and the
play area to be expanded in this phase . Contract negotiations for
this work are currently underway with the firm of Singer & Hodges .
The relighting of the baseball facilities and the tennis court which
are also a part of Phase IV development will require the services of
a lighting and electrical engineering firm which will be handled sep-
arately from the other park development work . The Public Works Depart-
ment will handle the completion of the drawings and specifications for
the parking area adjacent to the Red Morton Recreation Center . The
objective is to have all plans and specifications for Phase IV develop-
ment completed by late spring of 1978 so that contracts can be awarded
for the work immediately upon receipt of the State funds in July of
1978 .
Canyon Park & Palm Park
Final preparation of the plans and specifications for these parks so
as to adjust to current field conditions and State funding requirements
for these parks is now underway . The firm of Singer & Hodges prepared
the original design and plans and specifications for these parks and
they will be working with the staff toward final preparation for bidding
purposes .
It now appears possible that the State funds which are being supplied
through the Urban , Open Space and Recreation Program of the State
( SB174 ) for the completion of Palm Park , may be available in January
of 1978 . With this in mind , the final plans and specifications for
the completion of the park are being prepared so that bids can be
requested as soon as funds are received .
- 6 -
