Retention of assisted <br /> housing is a critical part of maintaining the supply of affordable <br /> housing in Redwood City. While there are a number of assisted <br /> housing units in the city, one development, Redwood City <br /> Commons, is considered at-risk of conversion to market rate <br /> during the planning period. Redwood City Commons is a 58-unit <br /> affordable development for elderly residents, operated by a for- <br /> profit company and subsidized with Section 8 funds. <br /> Redwood City will continue to monitor Section 8 legislation and <br /> Redwood City Commons, and make efforts to assist the <br /> property owner in maintaining the affordability of these units. <br /> Objectives: <br /> ▪ Annually monitor the affordability status of Redwood City <br /> Commons. <br /> n Maintain and update the City's list of nonprofit and <br /> community-based organizations to contact regarding <br /> possible ownership and management of the units at <br /> Redwood City Commons if they are in imminent risk of <br /> conversion. <br /> a In the event a project becomes at risk of converting to <br /> market-rate housing, work with property owners or other <br /> interested non-profit housing providers to preserve the <br /> units as affordable housing. <br /> Timeframe: Ongoing <br /> Responsible Party Community Development; City Manager <br /> Office/Economic Development <br /> Funding Sources: General Fund, CDBG, HOME <br /> Program H-3: Countywide Nexus Study.
