II I . . I II . ..
S.IC .1
REPORT
- To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
~ay 3, 2004
Subject
Purchase of two (2) Altec 35-foot aerial trucks
Recommendation
By Motion approve the purchase of two (2) Altec 35-foot aerial trucks in the amount of
$153,076.32 from the State of California Office of Procurement under the California
Multiple Award Schedule (CMAS) #4-02-23-0013A.
Background
The Public Works Services Department has two (2) 35-foot aerial trucks (1988 and 1990),
which are scheduled for replacement. The primary use of these aerial units is for the
maintenance and replacement of street lights and traffic signals. Staff has been evaluating
different makes and models of aerial lifts, and after several onsite demonstrations, staff
agrees that the Altec aerial unit meets the needs of the Traffic Control Maintenance
Section. The Altec unit offers improved safety features, platform access from the ground
and an articulating arm for maximum height and reach.
'-
Alternative
Not approving the purchase of these aerial units would impact the operational requirements
of the Traffic Control Maintenance Section. Their existing aerials are extremely worn from
heavy daily use. It would not be economically sound to invest in the continued repair of
these vehicles due to their current age and condition.
Fiscal Impact
Funds for the purchase of these replacement aerial trucks were approved by City Council
in the FY 2003/04 Equipment Replacement Fund Budget in the amount of$143,760. The
remaining balance of $9,316.32 will initially be financed from retained earnings in the
Equipment Replacement Fund. This amount will be subsequently recovered from the
operating budget of the user department through the vehicle replacement charges in future
years,
*3~J fJtÆA~
Lar arwacz Peter Ingram Ed Everett
Public Works Superintendent Public Works City Manager
Attachment: None
'-
