Proclamation: National Volunteer Month Honoring the Volunteer Center <br /> of Silicon Valley <br /> Redwood City resident and volunteer James E. McKeown and Tim Quigley, <br /> Executive Director of the Volunteer Center was present to receive the <br /> proclamation. Mr. Quigley explained the Centers as the clearinghouses to connect <br /> volunteers with community needs and promote the value of community service. <br /> He further acknowledged Mr. McKeown as a resident since 1950, working for <br /> many years as a practitioner of community service enabling volunteer service to <br /> the community and to the nation, serving the YWCA Mid-Peninsula for many <br /> years and in the recent past seven months in the Volunteer Center Network for <br /> the State of California. <br /> C. Proclamation: Honoring Sequoia Hospital for "2004 Distinguished Hospital <br /> Award for Clinical Excellence" <br /> Glenna Vaskelis, President of Sequoia Hospital, was present to receive the <br /> proclamation and left a brochure on the building of their new hospital and <br /> encouraged visiting "Rebuilding Sequoia" at SequoiaHospital.org. <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR - CITY COUNCIL AND <br /> REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br /> Shirley Daniels-Stassmos asked that there be more than one disabled parking spot. <br /> She invited the Council and members of the community to a gourmet spaghetti dinner <br /> and a talent show extravaganza at St. Peters Church on Saturday night, May 1 at 6:00 <br /> p.m. The tickets are $10.00 each with the benefits going to scholarships for the <br /> children at Lucille Packard and Stanford Hospital and St. Dorothy's Sierra Camp for <br /> terminally ill children. <br /> Jonathan Lucas, a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and co-chair with the <br /> Relay for Life in Redwood City on May 15-16 at Sequoia High School, gave statistics <br /> on cancer. He stated his purpose for appearing at the podium was to urge attendance <br /> and support at the Relay for Life. The American Cancer Society is one of the only <br /> volunteer driven National, State and Local organizations to fight cancer. The opening <br /> ceremony is Saturday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. with the luminaria at sunset in honor of <br /> those who are fighting and those who have died fighting cancer.
