, • � � PRRKS & RECREATION DEPARTRIENT MONTHLY REPORT DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT JANUARY 1978 Red Morton Park & Canyon Park The applications for state funding of these projects are still under review by the State Department of Parks and Recreation. As has been indicated previously, funds for these projects will not be available � until July of 1978, and, therefore, their reviews of the projects is of somewhat less priority than those to 6e immediately funded. In the meantime, the design process is underway for the work in Red Morton Park as well as finalizing the completed plans for Canyon Park. Flei'shman Park & Spinas Park The State Department of Parks and Recreation has determined that the applications for the work at Spinas Park and Fleishman Park, under the Need Basis Grant Portion of the Roberti-Z'berg Urban, Open Space and Recreation Program (SB174) , were not selected for funding this year. There were 123 applications submitted requesting some $12 million for funding. In that there were only $4 million to distri- bute, competition was stiff. Apparently the Spinas Park and Fleishman ' Park projects were unable to compete with many others. The information is that greater emphasis was placed upon awarding grants to new projects offering additional facilities as opposed to rehabilitation af existing facilities. The State has suggested that we reapply for fiscal year 1978-79. The deadline for which is October 1 , 1978. It would be our intention to reapply for these projects, however this will be a matter for discussion in our budget cQnsiderations for fiscal year 1978-79. Redwood Shores The work toward completion of the park work at Redwood Shores is now moving ahead as weather permits. The light poles, fixtures and electrical panels for the tennis courts have now been installed and our awaiting final inspection for acceptance. The concrete work is being completed in the patio portion of the play area as well as the curbside access walks. If the moratorium on landscaping is now to be lifted,since the drought situation has been eased, the landscaping and turfing of the park areas will be reconsidered and bids will be prepared for the completion of this work. _7..
