_ <br /> RECREATION DIVISI:O�t4 l�ONTHLY REPO�RT <br /> MARCW 1��7� <br /> COMMUNITY LEISURE SERVICES <br /> The first week of March ended another successful after-school recrea- <br /> tion basketball program. Over 700 elementary and junior high boys and <br /> girls participated this year for an all time high of 58 teams. The <br /> greatest increase was seen in the elementary girls program with an <br /> iracrease of 4 teams bringing the girls league to a total of 13 teams. <br /> Three elementary boys teams from Mt. Carmel partictpated for the first <br /> time in the after-school program. League winners were: <br /> Elementary Girls - The Hot Shot Shooters from Hawes <br /> Fourth Grade Boys - The Padres from Mt. Carmel <br /> Fifth �rade Boys - The Bulldo.gs from Henry Ford <br /> Sixth Grade Boys - The Lakers from Selby Lane & Washington <br /> Seventh Grade Boys - The 76ers from HQover <br /> Eighth Grade Boys - The Warriors from Kennedy <br /> Junior High Girls - The Blue's from D�cKinley <br /> Roving Leaders <br /> During the first week of March �h� elementary staff undei^went inservice <br /> training to prepare them for the Roving Lead�r Program. Starting on <br /> March 6 through the 17, activities were �onducted dt Henry Ford, Roasevelt, <br /> and Roy Cloud schools with average daily attendance of 100-125 at Henry <br /> Ford, 90-110 at Roy Cloud and 150-175 at Rflosevelt. The Roving Leader <br /> Program is a two week special �vents program utilizing 5 to 6 leaders <br /> with an emphasis on recreational activi�i�s which are not met by after- <br /> school sports. The K through 3rd graders also participate in this pro- <br /> gram. From March 27 to April 7, th� program w311 be conducted at Edison, <br /> , Fair Oaks, and Garfield schools. <br /> Junior High <br /> On March 6, the Junior Highs have started a recreation soc�er league. <br /> A17 three Junior Highs are fielding teams for seventh and eighth grade <br /> 6oys and girls. This is a low key program with no standings or play- <br /> offs and has been successful in attracting new students who did not play <br /> in the flag football , volleyball , or basketball programs. <br /> Easter Week Program <br /> A four-day day camp program was conducted during the school Easter <br /> vacation week. The camp was brqken down into two age groups, the Wee <br /> Woodsmen, ages 4 to 6 years old, and the Woody l�Joodpeckers, ages 7 to <br /> 10; both filled prior to camp opening.
