PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTPENT MONTHLY REPORT
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
AUGUST 1978
Redwood Shores
The turfing and landscape work is currently underway at the new park
areas in Redwood Shores. The project is approximately 50% completed.
The areas have been cultivated and soil amendment and fertilizer has
been incorporated into the soil . The headers are being installed for
the walkways and the placement of the asphalt should take place the
first week of September. The project is on schedule and should be
completed by the middle of October.
Palm Park
Work is now underway for the completion of Palm Park. New sidewalk,
curb, and gutter have been installed and the pads for the picnic
tables are being prepared. The small shelter construction is under-
way together with the access walkway at the northern end of the park.
Canyon Park
The City Council , at their meeting of August 7, 1973, approved the
application for the transfer of State funds from Canyon Park to the
Community Swimming Pool Project. Additionally, the proposed develop-
ment of approximately 1-1/2 acres of the Canyon Park project was
approved. This project will be funded from the capital reserves as
well as with State funds from the S6174 Block Grant Allocation. The
staff was instructed to proceed with the application fpr these funds.
The applications are completed and will be considered for approval
by the City Council at their meeting of September 11 , 1978. In the
meantime, there has been further consultation with Singer & Hodges
the consultants for the project relative to a time schedule for the
preparation of plans and specifications. It should be noted, however,
that any further work on the project must await approval by the State
for the application of SB174 funds and the transfer of funds to the
project from the uncommitted reserves.
Red Morton Park
The design work for the installation of the new lighting and the picnic
facilities, which are elements in the Phase IV construction of the park,
is well underway. The plans and specifications for the lighting will
be submitted for final review by the middle of September. The construc-
tion drawings for the picnic facility will be available for review by
-7-
