The building is located within the original Wellesley Park subdivision launched in 1888. Wellesley Park was the first subdivision
located west of El Camino in Redwood City. The 163-acre tract was developed by the Wellesley Land and Improvement
Company. In 1889 lion statues were placed at Wellesley Crescent, the circular street at the east entrance of the subdivision where
they remain. Development was slow until after the 1906 earthquake. According to a Historic American Landscape Survey on
Wellesley Park, the Wellesley park subdivision is historically significant,"a landmark design in Redwoods City,"as a Picturesque
suburban development designed by Daniel O'Connell and landscape gardener William Brown in 1888 but implemented after 1906
by George C. Ross,a prominent peninsular figure. Most development occurred during the first quarter of the 201"century with a
mix of Period revival and Craftsman style houses. Later developments occurred du"ow.,the 1940s and 1950s with Ranch style
homes and apartment buildings were constructed along the north and east ends in th60s and 1970s.
