6
Upon reviewing the special interest classes and activities for the summer ,
it was pointed out that one of the new classes started this summer is River
Rafting down the Stanislaus River . It was pointed out that the Sports and
Aquatic program is in the second half of the season . Swimming attendance
remains high and instructional classes are full . Commissioner Rollins com-
mented that the Softball program is by far the most outstanding one on the
Peninsula . It was noted that on the weekend of July 24 , teams from Santa
Cruz to Eureka ( 16 groups ) will be at Red Morton Park competing for the
State Championship . Three Redwood City teams will participate in the play-
off .
Mr . Burtz reported that the fall program will be basically the same as last
year , which was quite successful . He then showed some excellent slides of
activities at the various sites .
Commissioner Rollins was excused from the meeting at 8 : 45 p . m . Commissioner .
Knecht was excused at 8 : 50 p . m . , and returned at 9 : 00 p . m .
AGENDA ITEM 1 . Discussion of Commission Committee and other Assignments
Chairman Pound asked whether all the established committees are necessary .
Mr . Weeks responded that even though the committees may not be continually
active , it is best to have them established so that matters can be easily
referred to the appropriate committee . He suggested that the Commission
reevaluate the committees ' objectives and examine new areas of service for
the coming year .
Commissioner Pound then asked whether the Commissioners might like to change
from one committee to another . It was felt some continuity should be retained ,
however , rotation of members through the committees would be good . She sug-
gested that the Commission as a whole examine the committees and reevaluate
their objectives . The following Committee appointmentswere made :
Programming_ Design & Development Operational Policy
Rollins , Chairman Weintraub , Chairman Rollins , Chairman
Knecht Schlesinger Schlesinger
Buckhout Knecht Aldrich
Open Space Red Morton Com .
