CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> Minutes of Special Meeting <br /> April 19 , 1977 <br /> The meeting was opened by Chairman Marcia Poncia at 8 : 00 , p . m. , <br /> in the Conference Room of the Community Activities Building , <br /> 1400 Roosevelt Avenue , Redwood City . It had been scheduled <br /> at 7 : 30 , but Mr . Angel Acosta , who was to present the Senora <br /> Arguello sculpture , was unable to be there until 8 : 00 , p .m . <br /> PRESENT : Marcia Poncia , Chairman ; Annette Howi t t , Kay Mears , <br /> Alice Kennedy , and John Krueger <br /> ABSENT : Zelda Bergman and Nicole McKay <br /> STAFF : Max weeks , Director of Parks & Recreation <br /> Sally Hartman , Recreation Supervisor <br /> Mayfred Dawson , Recording Secretary <br /> GUEST : Mr . Angel Acosta <br /> AGENDA ITEM 1 - Discussion of Proposed Arguello Sculpture : <br /> Mr . Weeks gave the background on the sculpture of Senora <br /> Arguello and showed diagrams of the pedestal prepared by the <br /> Department of Public Works , which would cost approximately <br /> ' 600 . The proposed location of the sculpture would be at <br /> Arguello Street , between Marshall Street and Broadway. <br /> Mr . Weeks then introduced Mr . An gel Acosta , who explained <br /> his interest in the project and told of his efforts in <br /> bringing it to completion . He brought in the bronze bust of <br /> Senora Arguello , sculpted by Ray Lorenzato , instructor in the <br /> Fine Arts Department of College of San Mateo , for the Commission ' s <br /> approval . <br /> Following examination of the sculpture and the plan for the <br /> pedestal , the following motion was made by Commissioner Krueger , <br /> seconded by Commissioner Mears , and carried by voice vote : <br /> MOTION : That the Civic Cultural Commission recommend to the <br /> City Council acceptance of the bust and construction <br /> by the City of the pedestal . <br /> ADJOURNMENT : <br /> The Commission thanked Mr . Acosta for bringing the <br /> heavy sculpture for its approval and , there being <br /> no further business , the meeting was adjourned at <br /> 9 : 00 , p . m . <br /> MARCIA PONCIA , Chairman <br /> i <br /> e <br />
