•
Larry Irons said that in the morning ' s session they had begun to sort out how
much more information was needed . He suggested that adoption of the statement
• would merely be an enabling action to go on. .
Mary Henderson suggested that there be no action taken on the statement, but
that it be subject for discussion at the next meeting . •
Jim Fales said that he had forgotten to add that, while there had apparently
been a lot of talk about a "balanced community" at the outset of the Redwood
Shores development , when the General Plan for Redwood Shores was being put
together , such a policy had not been made part of the Plan itself.
Mary Henderson asked if the other Committee members agreed that the Redwood
Shores question should be continued on the agenda for the next meeting . Mel Kerwin
said that he had at least five hundred questions to ask about the Shores . •
Bill Floyd said that he felt the statement Mary Henderson had put forward was too
general . Mary Henderson pointed out that it included requiring the developer
to make a statement assuring a sufficient distribution of types , sizes , and costs
of housing . Bill Floyd asked how , if the City didn ' t know what it was looking
for , the developer could be expected to be .
Fred Soderer said that he hoped that the decisions the Committee took would be
consistent with the "balanced community" envisioned in the County Housing
Element .
Max Rice said that Mary Henderson ' s statement was a " first step" but that he
still felt it vital to set a definite amount of low/moderate-income housing
required . He urged the Committee to " get in and grapple with figures . "
Mary Henderson thanked Land for People for its continuing efforts to help the
Committee . She asked that copies of her statement be sent to Committee
members just before the next meeting . Fred Soderer asked that a note showing
how far along the City was in the General Plan process also be sent out .
(Shortly after the meeting , Bob Norris showed staff a statement he had prepared
concerning a community balance in housing . It is appended . )
•
The next Housing Concerns Committee meeting will be Wednesday , December 13 .
MINUTES HOUSING CONCERNS COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 22 , 1972 PAGE 6 OF 6
