Another Council Member also shared the same comments as the other Council Members
and appreciates that the audience members were there. She too stated that Redwood
City values education. Also, like her colleagues, she opined that this school was not in
the right neighborhood, but encourages them to look for other places.
Mayor Gee concurred with Vice Mayor Foust that this issue is a Land Use matter, and it is
difficult to find land in Redwood City or in the Peninsula, particularly for education. He
asked if this is the right use for an existing neighborhood, and concluded that this is not
the right use. He said that he is in agreement with the Planning Commission's decision.
Recommendation:
1. Hold a public hearing.
2. Adopt a resolution (Attachment 1) denying the appeal filed by Carol and
Nicholas Berg, applicants for the Cambridge Academy Project proposed at
2323-2325 Euclid Avenue, and upholding the February 4, 2014 Planning
Commission Actions in connection with the certification of the Environmental
Impact Report and denial of the Use Permit Application for the Cambridge
Academy Project.
RESOLUTION No. 15360 DENYING THE APPEAL FILED BY CAROL AND
NICHOLAS BERG, APPLICANTS FOR THE CAMBRIDGE ACADEMY PROJECT
PROPOSED AT 2323-2325 EUCLID AVENUE, AND UPHOLDING THE
FEBRUARY 4, 2014 PLANNING COMMISSION ACTIONS IN CONNECTION
WITH THE CERTIFICATION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT AND
DENIAL OF THE USE PERMIT FOR THE CAMBRIDGE ACADEMY PROJECT
M/S Foust/Aguirre to deny the project and deny the appeal of Cambridge Academy,
upholding the decision of the Planning Commission to deny the appeal in connection with
the Certification of the Environmental Impact Report, not approving the statement of
overriding considerations, and denying the Use Permit for the Cambridge Academy
Project. Motion carries unanimously by electronic vote.
9. STAFF REPORT(S) - None.
10. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
A.
