, _ F _ <br /> 5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> Mayor Gee handled items 5.B and 5.0 first and item 5.A was addressed a little later. <br /> B. Presentation -Water Conservation - Nicole Sandkulla, CEO of Bay Area <br /> Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) - was taken first <br /> (presentation on file) <br /> Ms. Sandkulla presented her report (presentation on file) on the importance of saving water <br /> and shared statistical data on water usage, steps to save water and taking advantage of <br /> rebate programs. One Council Member thanked Ms. Sandkulla and noted that she is the <br /> new CEO and President of BASWCA and opined that that entity is doing the right things. <br /> Mayor Gee also thanked her for the presentation and work. <br /> C. Swearing in of Appointees to Boards, Commissions and Committees - <br /> Silvia Vonderlinden, City Clerk— Done two Port Commissioners <br /> Ms. Vonderlinden, City Clerk, performed the Oath of Office for Port Commissioners Dodge <br /> and Duncan. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Cara Green, with the Girls Scouts of America, spoke about her project on the importance of <br /> urban beekeeping, the impact on food production, and how she wishes to raise awareness. <br /> She spoke in favor of potentially amending the current ordinance to make our community <br /> more bee friendly with more neighborhood hives, and thereby increasing the pollination of <br /> plants that are sources for food, health and cosmetic products. <br /> Mayor thanked Ms. Green for helping to raise awareness. One Council Member mentioned <br /> the Beekeepers Guild of California and spoke about seeking information from the County of <br /> San Mateo on this matter. <br /> Ms. Lucy Li and her family arrived at the Council meeting. Mayor Gee invited Ms. Lucy Li <br /> to the podium and addressed the Special Order of the Day 5.A at this time. <br /> A. Recognition of Ms. Lucy Li by the City Council - Jeffrey Gee, Mayor <br /> Mayor Gee congratulated Ms. Lucy Li on her accomplishment on behalf of the City Council <br /> and the Community, commenting on how proud everyone is of her. Ms. Lucy Li shared that <br /> the U.S. Open was fun and noted that one has to be patient when playing golf as it can be <br /> very frustrating at times. <br /> Tom Linebarger spoke about the need for more adequate low income housing and about <br /> how some people have lost their housing at Pete's Harbor and from recent fires. He opined <br /> that housing has been attacked on many fronts - such as foreclosures and high rents. <br /> Colt Rymer, a disabled veteran and resident, spoke about his needs to live close to the <br /> Palo Alto Veterans Hospital for health care services.
