Emergency Drought Regulations for Statewide Urban Water <br /> Conservation (802) <br /> Recommendation: <br /> Adopt a Resolution Implementing Outdoor Water Use Restrictions in <br /> Compliance with State Water Resources Control Board's Emergency <br /> Drought Regulations; and confirm determination that the activity is exempt <br /> from CEQA <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 15362 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br /> IMPLEMENTING OUTDOOR WATER USE RESTRICTIONS IN COMPLIANCE <br /> WITH STATE WATER RESOURCES CONTROL BOARD'S JULY 15, 2014 <br /> EMERGENCY DROUGHT REGULATIONS <br /> Assistant City Manager Ekern spoke about the efforts the City was making to respond to <br /> the drought. He provided a presentation demonstrating the City's history of water <br /> conservation, the City's successes in conservation such as the level of water use <br /> significantly dropped, and the City's outreach to the public (presentation is on file). <br /> A Council Member was pleased with Mr. Ekern's report. She mentioned that she sits on <br /> the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) and how some <br /> jurisdictions are looking at converting multi-family buildings that have a single smart meter <br /> to individual meters. She would like the City to research that and how it can be applied to <br /> the City. <br /> Another Council Member said that at the last Utilities Committee Meeting with Vice Mayor <br /> Foust and Council Member Aguirre, he was happy to hear of the success the City has had. <br /> However, he wanted to point out that it was amazing that the City had a 16 year goal and it <br /> was accomplished in five years with a 20°/a reduction of water usage. He also said that he <br /> appreciated Staff and the citizens for the Lawn Be Gone Program and Recycled Water <br /> program and its expansion for people to gain more access to it. This same Council <br /> Member said more work needs to be done, but that we can also be appreciative of the work <br /> that was accomplished in long term planning. <br /> One other Council Member said she hopes that people see the Water Campaign to keep <br /> the awareness going on. She mentioned that CNN (Cable News Network) reported that <br /> some people in California were creative in using recycled water for the Ice Bucket <br /> Challenge. She also thanked people for their efforts and hopes that they continue to be <br /> aware and conserve water. One other Council Member spoke about the Mayor's <br /> Beautification Awards rewarding participants who have kept this awareness in mind and <br /> have made water conservation a component of their beautification project. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked the Utilities Committee for working with people to meet the water <br /> usage targets, exceed them, and bring new innovative ways to the community.
