5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY - None.
6. PUBLIC COMMENT
Karen Maki, a resident in the North Fair Oaks area and Chair of the Fourth Protection
Chapter of the Sierra Club, Loma Prieta, asked Council to consider a resolution to ban
clear cutting and she explained what that process entails. She mentioned counties
where this practice has been outlawed.
Sue Chow, a resident, said she is on the Executive Committee of the Sierra Club and
she would like to support the prior speaker's comments. She read a statement and
would like Council to consider joining other cities in passing the same resolution.
Susanne Ruiz-Dunlop, a resident and a teacher, referred to a cross walk on Alameda
de Las Pulgas and Goodwin and how traffic mitigation measures are needed for safety.
She referred to speaking with staff and how she was told that this will come in the future
but she is tired of waiting for this and she would like to see flashing lights installed now.
Joan Dentler is the new Field Representative at Senator Jerry Hill's Office and she is
looking to introduce herself and made herself available to the Council and the
community. She said that Senator Hill authored sixteen bills, two of which have already
been signed into law.
Mayor Gee noted that the environmental committee could consider the items mentioned
by the first two speakers and Council Members Bain and Pierce concurred with
discussing it. City Manager Bell said he would have his staff be in touch with Ms. Ruiz-
Dunlop regarding the traffic mitigation at Goodwin and Alameda de Las Pulgas.
7. CONSENT CALENDAR
Items on the Consent Calendar are considered to be routine and will be enacted by one
motion and one vote.
CITY COUNCIL: Waive reading of the consent calendar and the full text of ordinances
and resolutions, and approve the Consent Calendar items.
M/S SeybertlAguirre to approve the Consent Calendar as presented.
Council Member Seybert asked for clarification on Item 7.3.A since the Council received
a communication regarding this matter. Mr. Ekern, Assistant City Manager, addressed
this concern saying the funds used for this purchase derive from Impact Fees that
developers pay and are not tied to the General Fund. Additionally, Mayor Gee asked
Mr. Beth, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, if Redwood City has
too much park area. Mr. Beth corrected the record by saying that regarding park area
we are at 2.9 acres per 1,000 residents and in some areas at 2.7 acres per 1,000
residents when the norm is 3.0 acres per 1,000.
Council Member Pierce commented on Item 7.1.D and how the truck has a neutral cost
and is very beneficial especially during a drought. She finds this to be great technology
being used for the benefit of many.
