Jodi Paley, member of the Senior Affairs Commission and the Board of Directors for the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center, thanked Mr. Beth for keeping them informed. She <br /> spoke about the work they have done in including outreach to users of the club and <br /> Center and meetings with Council and staff. She spoke about what the City wishes to <br /> provide service for seniors and the entire community with the economy of the site and <br /> efficiency in the programs they can provide. She spoke in favor for the project. <br /> Council Discussion <br /> A Council Member said that he took this opportunity to be on the Subcommittee of the <br /> Partnership between the City and the YMCA, because this is a great opportunity to do <br /> something for all community members. He stated his eagerness for the construction to <br /> take place and shared his thoughts on the community being engaged throughout this <br /> process. <br /> Another Council Member thanked Director Beth for his presentation and was excited to <br /> see the different stakeholders' participation. She particularly mentioned the need for the <br /> youth to be involved, and gave an example of how one Center let the youth design their <br /> spaces which enabled them to feel part of the community. <br /> One more Council Member said he also fully supports this project. He said that this is a <br /> great opportunity for a new building, and this is great for the public to see the <br /> partnership between public and private for the greater good. This same Council <br /> Member continued his remarks thanking Director Beth and the YMCA Board. <br /> An additional Council Member stated that it had been enlightening to work on this <br /> initiative seeing the collaboration of partners in creating a sustainable model for the <br /> betterment of the community. She too would like to see this project quickly move <br /> forward. <br /> Vice Mayor Foust shared her enthusiasm for this project. She thanked all the groups <br /> involved in the subcommittee meetings and how they envisioned their partnerships, <br /> looking at different examples of intergenerational group programs in various <br /> organizations. Vice Mayor Foust was proud to see how long they have come to make <br /> this collaboration come true for all members of the community. She thanked Director <br /> Beth and the Senior Affairs Commission for their work on this matter. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked Director Beth and said this is a great example of what can be done <br /> when people come together. He mentioned the various groups involved, but that there <br /> will be more members of the community who in the future will partake in this project. <br /> M/S Seybert/Pierce to approve the letter of intent. Motion carries unanimously with <br /> Council Member Howard recused. <br /> B.
