7.1.D. - Page 3 <br /> a $500.00. A representative for Veronica Escamez, the founder of Circulo Cultural, <br /> thanked the Council and their Board for the support as well as all the volunteers that <br /> made their float possible. The 2014 Judge's Award went to Mission San Jose High <br /> School Band and Ms. Gene was present and thanked the Council and the Hometown <br /> Holidays for this award. They too received a plaque award and a $500.00 check. <br /> Ms. Borgens also thanked Mr. Jerry Pierce who captured all the images of the event <br /> and has posted them online on their website. She expressed her generosity to Mr. <br /> Pierce for his skill and volunteerism. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked the organizers for this wonderful event that brings so many people <br /> together. Vice Mayor Foust added that she heard the invocator talk about sacrifices <br /> and as she looked at the audience she saw that there are many people in the audience <br /> who volunteer and work so hard to make so many things happen. She expressed her <br /> thanks to the members of the audience who work hard and it is a privilege for her to <br /> serve this community. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Mark Simon, Executive Director of SamTrans, shared their new calendar that includes a <br /> picture of Redwood City. He said Redwood City is getting renowned throughout the <br /> region and nation for embracing a renaissance of growth and development around <br /> transportation hubs. <br /> Ro Fisher, representing City Art Center, shared their new calendar and expressed her <br /> thanks to the Council, in particular Mayor Gee and Council Member Seybert, for meeting <br /> with them and for finding a solution to a very difficult year for the Art Center. While the <br /> Center moved to San Carlos she believes Art has no boundaries. <br /> Kate Comfort Harr, Executive Director of HIP Housing, shared their new calendar and <br /> she thanked the City Council for its support over the years. She spoke about the home <br /> sharing program, shared some statistical information, and encouraged housing providers <br /> in particular to contact them. She referred to one of the winners being from Redwood <br /> City. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked HIP housing for its work in Redwood City and the County in general. <br /> Beth Mostovoy, representing Art on the Square, wanted to acknowledge and recognize <br /> Dragon Theater and Broadway by the Day for their awards and to also claim this city as <br /> an Art and Entertainment hub. She spoke in favor of the plays at Dragon Theater as she <br /> has attended most of them and she also commented on the art scene in the City with <br /> artists painting utility boxes downtown and murals. <br /> Mayor Gee agreed that we are the Art Center of the Peninsula as well as the <br /> Entertainment Center. <br /> Gino Gasparini, Chair of the Redwood City San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce, <br /> announced a few upcoming events including various awards and the winners that will be <br /> recognized this year.
