7.1.D. - Page 8 <br /> members of the public directed to FEMA. One Council Member inquired about cost <br /> savings for residents and Ms. Le confirmed that there is a benefit if one purchases flood <br /> insurance before the map is approved and then the flood insurance, at that rate, may be <br /> grandfathered-in. Another Council Member inquired about the levee at Redwood <br /> Shores and Ms. Le said that the levee still seems to be protecting that area. <br /> Vice Mayor Foust spoke about the preserve at Redwood Shores and how part of that <br /> development was building a FEMA certified levee at the cost of the developer. She <br /> believes that as part of the Community Benefits discussion items like these will come up <br /> and may be on the table. Another Council Member spoke about the City being an agent <br /> on behalf of the Community to make sure we protect our residents and save residents <br /> money and buy insurance in advance. He views this as an opportunity to inform <br /> residents and have them review options. Mayor Gee is hopeful that the new <br /> Communications Manager will get the word out soon about these facts. He sees that the <br /> outreach is crucial and he asked that Mr. Aknin work with the City Manager and the <br /> Communications Manager to get the word out so people are informed and aware. <br /> M/S Seybert/Howard motion to introduce the ordinance. Motion carried 5-0 by <br /> electronic vote with Council Members Aguirre and Bain absent. <br /> 10. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. City Council Member Report of Conferences Attended <br /> -Council Member Seybert attended the C/CAG meeting and learned about the <br /> Community Choice Aggregation (AB 117) related to green energy. <br /> -Council Member Pierce spoke about an upcoming training that she and Council <br /> Member Bain will be attending and she will then share that information. <br /> -Vice Mayor Foust heard that the new President of the Board of Supervisors, Ms. <br /> Groom, and Supervisor Pine will be learning more about Community Aggregation. She <br /> also announced that Mayor Gee was appointed to serve on the CalTrain Joint Powers <br /> Board. <br /> -Mayor Gee also announced and congratulated Vice Mayor Foust for her appointment <br /> to represent the Southern Cities on the Transportation Authority Board. Mayor Gee <br /> added that he got to vote on the certification of the the EIR for the CalTrain <br /> Modernization. <br /> B. City Council Committee Reports <br /> C. City Manager (Oral) Update — Dr. Bell announced the new Public <br /> Communication Manager Meghan Horrigan and how she will come to a future Council <br /> Meeting to be introduced. <br /> D. City Attorney Report from Closed Session - None. <br /> 11.
