02/23/2015 <br /> EXHIBIT "A" <br /> Proposed Classification: <br /> CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) TECHNICIAN <br /> DEFINITION <br /> The GIS Technician performs a variety of technical duties including data analysis, <br /> database management and data output tasks of moderate difficulty, related, but not <br /> limited to the City's utilities and Capital Improvement Projects. <br /> DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br /> The GIS Technician is the entry level class in the GIS series requiring prior <br /> paraprofessional GIS work experience. Advancement to the GIS Coordinator requires <br /> the ability design complex data processes, develop GIS applications, administer the <br /> enterprise geodatabase, and lead complex projects. <br /> SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> Receives immediate supervision from the GIS Coordinator. Exercises no supervisory <br /> responsibilities over employees. May direct the activities of part-time employees. <br /> EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES <br /> Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br /> Produces maps, spreadsheets, graphs, and other analytical products in response to <br /> requests from staff, consultants, and the public. <br /> Prepares, collects, organizes and inputs data to maintain and enhance the enterprise <br /> geodatabase specifically for, but not limited to, utility related data. <br /> Designs databases and performs routine data management tasks, such as data <br /> validation and correction, queries and editing in GIS. <br /> Develops, tests and implements quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) <br /> processes to ensure GIS data accuracy and integrity. <br /> ATTY/RES0.3058/CC RESO AMENDING CITIY CLASSIFICATION GIS TECHNICIAN RESO.#15394 <br /> REV:02-11-15 MLG MUFF#905 <br /> Page 3 of 10 <br />
