5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Recognition of the generous grants bestowed on the Library <br /> Foundation from State Farm Youth Advisory Board and from the Latino <br /> Community Council of Redwood City - Derek Wolfgram , Library Director <br /> and Georgi LaBerge, Executive Director of the Redwood City Library <br /> Foundation <br /> Director Wolfgram and Executive Director LaBerge invited the various representatives <br /> from each of the organizations to present the two checks. Ms. La Berge also provided a <br /> brief synopsis of the events that culminated on these generous donations. Each group <br /> recognized members present from their respective organizations which included <br /> community members and business sponsors. <br /> The two checks presented to the Library Foundation were in the following amounts: <br /> State Farm : $48 , 875. 00 and Latino Community Council : $21 , 383 . 70 . Mr. Hector <br /> Flamenco with State Farm Youth Advisory Board spoke about the volunteers who made <br /> this happen and the specifics of the program . He acknowledged Mr. Ryan Traynor. Mr. <br /> Arnoldo Arreola , Chair of the Latino Community Council of Redwood City, and Ms. <br /> Connie Guerrero both addressed the Council emphasizing that literacy is a priority for <br /> this community and there was great involvement from many to make these donations a <br /> reality. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked both groups for their substantial donations and all their <br /> volunteerism which made this a reality. <br /> B. Recognition of Dragon Theater for Its 13 Nominations and Award for <br /> Outstanding Best Actor in a Principle Role in a Play in the 2014 TBA <br /> Awards - Tier III and Broadway By the Bay for Its 21 Nominations and <br /> Six Awards in the 2014 TBA Awards - Tier II - Meredith Hagedorn , <br /> Executive Artistic Director & Founder of Dragon Productions Theatre <br /> Company <br /> Mayor Gee welcomed Ms . Hagedorn one of the owners of Dragon Theater. He <br /> presented her with a certificate of recognition and he thanked her for assisting in making <br /> Redwood City the Entertainment capital of the Peninsula . Ms. Hagedorn shared her <br /> excitement about being in Redwood City and thanked the City Council for the <br /> recognition . She spoke about the productions and the community support received in <br /> Redwood City. <br /> C . Hometown Holidays Awards Presentation - Janet Borgens and David <br /> Ingram , Downtown Business Group Co-Chairs <br /> Ms. Janet Borgens provided a brief overview of what the Hometown Holidays event <br /> entails . She thanked many of the people involved with organizing , judging and <br /> supporting the event including the Downtown Business Group and local businesses. In <br /> particular, she thanked the City Department Heads who volunteered to be judges . She <br /> presented the Judge's Choice and the Virginia Ball Memorial Awards .
