5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamation Recognizing Glenna Vaskelis, President of Sequoia <br /> Hospital -Jeffrey Gee, Mayor <br /> Mayor Gee invited Ms. Vaskelis up to the podium and also recognized others on the <br /> Sequoia Hospital Community Board who were in attendance. On behalf of City Council, <br /> Mayor Gee thanked and congratulated Ms. Vaskelis for her leadership and providing <br /> 19-years of exemplary service to Redwood City and the region. He read from the <br /> proclamation, citing her many contributions and wishing her continued success upon <br /> her retirement and future initiatives. <br /> Ms. Vaskelis expressed her appreciation for the support she has received from the City <br /> over the years, and noted that the Sequoia Hospital will be celebrating its 65tn <br /> anniversary later this year. <br /> B. Silicon Valley Leadership Group Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet <br /> Award Winners, an award will be presented by Mike Mielke, Senior Vice <br /> President, Environment & Energy Silicon Valley Leadership Group, to <br /> Jeffrey Gee, Mayor, Robert B. Bell, City Manager, and Aaron Aknin, <br /> Community Development Director <br /> Mr. Mielke presented Ms. Audrey Ramberg, Interim Finance Director, with the <br /> honorable mention award for the new electronic application "Pay Near Me" that allows <br /> residents to pay their utility bills 24/7. Mr. Mielke also presented the main award for the <br /> Redwood City Downtown Precise Plan to Mayor Gee, Dr. Bell and Mr. Aknin. Mayor <br /> Gee thanked the Silicon Valley Group and its judges for making this possible and he <br /> also thanked Dr. Bell and his team for all the hard work. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Claudia Mena spoke about rising rent prices and she said has been living here for 16 <br /> years and she cannot find an affordable place to live. She asked what is the Council <br /> going to do about this. <br /> Mayor Gee said that there are a number of resources that staff can put her in touch <br /> with. Another Council thanked the speaker for coming tonight. <br /> Council Member Howard made a comment regarding Agenda Item 7.1A and how she <br /> recused herself; however the vote was on an amendment and she said that in the future <br /> she would be able to vote on broader issues and for the record she would have voted <br /> for that procedural change. She said she provided this clarification to be transparent. <br /> 7.
