Another Council Member spoke about the UUT and this Council Member thanked <br /> Mayor Gee for this creative approach of linking fire sprinklers safety to rent stabilization. <br /> This Council member said he really appreciates the Plan and he would like one more <br /> strategy which is - partner with non-profits. This Council Member added that he <br /> addressed this suggestion with Council Member Pierce and she was supportive of this <br /> approach. <br /> One Council Member inquired about the Mobile parks and if any of these options would <br /> be applicable to those. Mr. Aknin clarified the realities of mobile parks and how this <br /> does not apply to this type of housing. Mayor Gee referred to the third community <br /> meeting with the two mobile home parks in Redwood City held recently and how the <br /> goal is to improve the flooding in that area. Mayor Gee provided details about a program <br /> which might help improve the situation. <br /> Another Council Member supported all the staff recommendations and this Council <br /> Member would like to see some emergency response options. This Council Member <br /> would like to see us establish Affordable Housing as our primary Community Benefit <br /> and look at best practices. She believes we are in a state of emergency and she would <br /> like more immediate solutions so that there is a more urgent approach with immediate <br /> interventions with landlords. This Council member would like a more aggressive <br /> approach. <br /> Another Council Member agreed with those suggestions and he sees the partnering <br /> with the non-profits as a real benefit. Vice Mayor Foust said that the UUT should not be <br /> for land acquisition and she supports the Bradford Street and she would like to see the <br /> City explore housing partners. She would like to see another Casa de Redwood in <br /> Redwood City. Vice Mayor Foust would like to see the City work with Tri-County on the <br /> carrot approach and sit down with developers and property owners and see who would <br /> like to assign a few for affordable units. She believes we need to provide housing at all <br /> income levels. Vice Mayor asked if as part of the Stanford Development Agreement <br /> some funds could be set aside to engage the apartment owners. Another Council <br /> Member said that there is a great opportunity to look at other organizations to help. <br /> Mayor Gee summarized that the consensus from the Council was unanimous on <br /> moving forward on all fronts. He added that this is not a Redwood City problem alone. <br /> He also explained the tools that the City has at its disposal to make Affordable Housing <br /> a reality. He would like to work more closely with the community to effectuate viable <br /> solutions. <br /> Dr. Bell said that the Mayor was the one that had given the two ideas (UUT and the Fire <br /> Safety First) that came up and he thanked Mr. Aknin, and the City Attorney's Office for <br /> researching these programs as well as Chief Skinner. <br /> 10.
