Old timers remember hearing
that the house was built to house lumber company employees, but it is not known when.
Charles and Grace Woodhams lived here from 1913 until their deaths in 1939 and 1944.
Woodhams was a harness maker, but when the automobile came along, he left the
harness-making business and owned a furniture store on Broadway. He also raised Buff
Orpindton chickens on this property and sold eggs around town. Today this century-old
house is used as law offices and is surrounded by modem commercial buildings. These protections govern the changes that are allowed to
be made to the resources themselves. The Plan also protects historic resources by requiring new
projects built adjacent to historic resources to avoid a"substantial adverse change"in the
significance of the adjacent historic resource and protect its continued eligibility for listing on the
California Register. The Downtown Precise Plan(section 2.1.3) specifies the Preservation
Standard and Guidelines for these resources.
4
ATTYIRES0.3048IHRAC RESO RECOMMENDING 601 MARSHALL STREET EXHIBIT A
REV:01-16-15 VR
