108
Oral Communications (continued)
Dorothy Regnori, Portola Valley, expressed her
hope that Council will consider changes in build-
ing regulations with regard to preserving historical II buildings. Council members advised that Redwood
City has already been on record for some time with
regard to the desirability of protecting and pre-
serving historical buildings in the community.
Catherine Kaiser, Atherton, urged that preservation
guidelines be adopted as part of the General Plan.
Ms. Kaiser stated she has met with Chief Building
Official Gyselbrecht in the past and is well ac-
quainted with his efforts in regard to preservation
of historical buildings in the City.
City Planner Schoenfeld advised that the Planning
Department is working on preservation guidelines
and a report is anticipated this fall, noting that
the guidelines would be of a general nature ex-
pressing goals and principles and suggesting means
of implementing them.
City Attorney Schricker advised for the record that
Mrs. Woodhams has asked that certain Building Code
requirements be waived and has not offered any
alternatives which might satisfy the objectives of
the Code requirements. Mr. Schricker stated that
if alternatives are submitted in writing to the
Chief Building Official, he has sufficient dis-
cretion in carrying out his duties to approve or
deny them. If he denies proposed alternatives,
and if the alternatives are within the purview of
the Board of Building Review, then the Board could -
hear them.
2. John Crevelt, 1434 Mitchall, named the sports and
service organizations in the City which he supports
and stated he is in the trophy business . Mr.
Crevelt suggested that the City should make its
purchases from businessmen in Redwood City and ob-
jected to a recent purchase of trophies from a San
Carlos firm. Mr . Crevelt stated that his bid ex-
ceeded that of the San Carlos firm by $33 . 91, and
suggested no recognition was given to his being a
local businessman in the evaluation of bids . Mr.
Crevelt asked that he be given the opportunity to
bid on City trophy requirements in the future .
Council discussion followed concerning the desir-
ability of soliciting bids on City purchases from
local businessmen; the desire and duty of the Council
to obtain City requirements at the lowest possible '
cost to the taxpayers; and the fact that local
businessmen do not and should not feel any com-
punction about bidding on the requirements of other
cities .
-10-
Reg.Mtg.
8/11/75
