exerxremsneraram
54
PUBLIC HEARING (continued) gm'
Item No. 2 (continued)
the character of the City by salvaging old buildings; the 50
and possible 90-day waiting periods for permits to demolish
or alter the buildings; the usual procedure for such
permits; under what conditions abstaining from voting is
permitted; and whether the much altered blacksmith shop
retains enough historic interest to qualify for designation.
Gladys Woodhams (see above) suggested it would be simple to
restore the laundry building according to professional
opinions she has requested, and said Council might consider
allowing the sale of air rights above a landmark building
where a small building in a commercially desirable location
is historic.
Tom Bezant, 875 Beech, Apartment #7, reported that when
desired development was being held up by historic buildings,
the City of Fairbanks, Alaska moved the buildings to an
historic park rather than attempt to preserve them on the
original sites.
Mayor Biagi invited anyone else present who wished to speak
to do so. No one wished to speak.
M/S: Chandler/Stangel to close the public hearing. Carried
unanimously and public hearing closed at 8:25 p.m.
Title read. M/S: Chandler/Britschgi
RESOLUTION DESIGNATING CERTAIN BUILDINGS IN THE
CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AS HISTORIC LANDMARKS
including the following:
wird
1) Bank of San Mateo County/Fitzpatrick Building
2000-12 Broadway
2) Old Courthouse, 2200 Broadway
3) Diller's Store (Quong Lee Laundry)
726 Main Street
4) Fire Station No. 1
1044 Middlefield Road
AMENDMENT: M/S: Bury/ to add to the buildings
to be designated historic landmarks the Hilton and Titus
Blacksmith Shop, 822-26 Main Street.
The amendment died for lack of a second.
City Attorney Schricker stated for the record that the
historic designation applies only to buildings and not to
the sites on which they may be located.
RESOLUTION NO. 8859 adopted unanimously by roll call vote.
M/S: Chandler/Rhodes to ask the Planning Commission to
consider changes in Ordinance No. 1815 relating to historic
preservation to reduce the permit waiting period in Section
40.9(d) from 50 to 30 days and in Section 40.11 from 90 to
30 days and that the party applying for the permit be
notified within ten days instead of 30 days.
Carried unanimously by voice vote.
MINUTE ORDER NO. 81-89
Reg.Mtg.
6/1/81
Page 4
