9
REPORTS OF CITY MANAGER
2. Closure of Marina Park Beach
IMM
Report of City Manager 5/15/81
Reports of Chief of Police 5/4 and 5/5/81
Letter, Donald G. Warren, President, Redwood
Shores, Inc. 4/24/81
City Manager Fales recommended that the Council
accede to the request of Redwood Shores, Inc. to
rescind the requirement attached to the Tentative
Map approval of the original Marina Park
subdivision, to allow public use of the private
beach until alternate facilities were provided.
He indicated that, assuming approval of this
request, staff will bring back to Council a
recommendation at a later time by which the
problem of the restroom at this location can be
solved as well.
Gregg Doran, 510 Marlin Drive, related his
experience following a newspaper report, of
receiving a number of phone calls from residents
who were concerned that if the beach is closed,
those who are creating the problems at Marina Park
Beach, and who apparently are non-residents of
Redwood City, will find the only other real park
in the interior of Redwood Shores.
Pete Gruchala, 573 Marlin Court, also expressed
concern regarding the interior park and suggested
that it be cordoned off or patrolled.
ems Don Warren, representing Redwood Shores, Inc.
referred to his letter requesting the closure and
emphasized that it has always been the intent to
iimer
eventually close the beach when another facility
became available, but that if it could be an asset
to serve the residents of Redwood City, they would
not want to close it at this time; however, the
situation has become uncontrollable and at least
90% of those who use the beach are not residents;
that it is a private beach for which use is by
permission of the owners, who are responsible for
its maintenance and for security patrol, as well
as for any liability connected with the beach. He
urged that the Council rescind the condition of
the Tentative Map approval to allow closure of the
beach.
Title read. M/S: Rhodes/Britschgi
RESOLUTION NO. 8845
RESOLUTION RESCINDING CONDITION TO THE
GRANTING OF EXCEPTIONS TO CERTAIN PROVISIONS
OF CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF
REDWOOD CITY REGARDING MARINA PARK BEACH
Adopted unanimously by roll call vote.
Reg.Mtg.
5/18/81
Paget
