Report re Police Officer Soft Body Report of City Manager 7/23/81 • <br /> Armor Report of Chief of Police 6/2/81 <br /> Report of Director of Personnel 6/16/81 <br /> City Manager Fales said that if Council <br /> approves the recommendation with regard to <br /> furnishing of soft body armor to police, <br /> documents implementing the approval will be <br /> placed on the Agenda later. <br /> Discussion followed and Mr. Fales and Police <br /> Chief Bold commented and replied to questions <br /> concerning the willingness of Council to pay <br /> in full for the best body armor; the fact <br /> that more than one brand may meet threat magi <br /> level specifications and costs vary according <br /> to style; the fact that if police officers <br /> are allowed to select the vest they <br /> individually prefer, there will be cost <br /> variations among vests meeting <br /> specifications; the desire to allow police <br /> officers to make their own selections in <br /> order to encourage use; the fact that the <br /> $200 allocation toward the cost of each vest <br /> was. recommended by the Police Officers <br /> Association (POA) as being most equitable; <br /> the lack of knowledge relating to life of <br /> armor; and the policies regarding purchase of <br /> armor and its use in other cities and <br /> counties. <br /> M/S: Chandler/Leipzig to approve the <br /> proposed Letter of Understanding between the <br /> City of Redwood City and the Redwood City <br /> Police Officers Association relating to body <br /> armor vests which is attached to the Report <br /> of the City Manager of July 23, 1981. <br /> Carried unanimously by voice vote. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 81-133 <br /> Mayor Biagi then displayed a check in the <br /> amount of $200.00 from Arthur L.
