293 .
AGENDA (continued) ACTION TAKEN (continued)
!P"' REPORTS OF CITY MANAGER (continued) REPORTS OF CITY MANAGER (continued)
5. (continued) Sally Mitchell, 836 Walnut Street, Fire In-
spector for City of San Mateo, suggested that
if the fire inspector's job is done well, there
should be few fires to report, therefore making
it impossible to relate incidents to issuance
of permits and fees. Ms. Mitchell reported her
experiences, observing that inspectors desire
compliance primarily and expect to be helpful
to businessmen in meeting their fire prevention
needs. Ms. Mitchell suggested the proposed fees
are justified.
Dennis L. Woodman (see above) called attention
to the section of the City Code regarding appeal
procedure and the fact that the Fire Chief is
allowed to issue permits on "reasonable" grounds,
stating there is no definition of what may be
reasonable.
M/S: Stangel/Britschgi to continue with the
fire prevention system in accordance with the
requirements of the Uniform Fire Code and not
to establish a fee schedule for fire inspection
permits.
The motion carried on the following roll call
vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Britschgi, Rhodes, Stangel
and Mayor Biagi
w.•.
