Councilman Britschgi inquired about landscaping of the islands and median strips
on El Camino Real. Director of Public Works Addiego advised that the landscaping
is in the Capital Improvement Programs for 1980-81 and 1981-82, but that, as Council
has been advised, no landscaping can be undertaken until the final transportation
study of El Camino Real has been completed by CalTrans. Once the determination is
made and the project approved, the Parks and Recreation Department will become
involved and a landscape consultant can be engaged to proceed with that work. Mr.
Addiego stated that it appears that the project will be approved.
2. Councilman Bury referred to the letter of August 6, 1980 from San Mateo County
Supervisor James Fitzgerald requesting Council to join the effort to place a
referendum measure before the voters to nullify SB 200 which allows the State to
proceed with construction of the Peripheral Canal project.
There being no objection, Mayor Biagi referred Supervisor Fitzgerald's letter to
the Legislative Committee for consideration and recommendation.
