34J <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> 1. Carol Bankis, 1408 Middlefield Road, representing the Redwood City <br /> Merchants Amateur Women's Softball Team, reported that the Merchants <br /> are the first California team to qualify for the national championship <br /> four consecutive years and are looking forward to attending in York, <br /> Pennsylvania. Ms. Bankis advised that the team has raised $4,000 <br /> toward the trip and needs an additional $1,800. She asked that the <br /> City contribute $1,000 to assist the team which will represent Redwood <br /> City at the championship meet. She advised that all team members live <br /> in Redwood City. <br /> Discussion followed concerning the contribution of the team to women's <br /> sports; whether the City's contribution might be less than the $1,000 <br /> requested; the entertainment provided by the team; the community pro- <br /> motional nature of the requested contribution; the increased cost of <br /> travel; and the desire to encourage young women to participate in <br /> sports. <br /> M/S: Bury/Stangel to contribute $1,000 from Budgeted Reserves to the ex- <br /> penses of the Redwood City Merchants Women's Softball Team in attending the <br /> national championship in York, Pennsylvania, August 28-September 1, 1980. <br /> Carried by majority voice vote which Mayor Biagi determined to be 5-2. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 80-140 <br /> .WN% GENERAL <br /> Iwo 1. There being no objection, Mayor Biagi referred the matter of AB 2174 <br /> (Rosenthal) re Retail Price Marking to the Legislative Committee. <br /> (Memo 8/26/80) <br /> 2. Attention was called to the letter from Jerry E. Wells, Joplin, <br /> Missouri, commending police officers Peter MacDonald and George <br /> Garrett for their work in having his stolen vehicle returned to <br /> him. Mayor Biagi asked that the Council's commendation also be <br /> communicated to the officers. (Memo 8/26/80) <br /> 3. Attention was called to the communication of the Management Analyst <br /> regarding notice that the Peninsula Humane Society will no longer <br /> respond to "barking dog" calls. <br /> In response to question regarding implementation of the noise element <br /> in the General Plan, Planning Director Schroeter advised that it has <br /> not been implemented by City ordinance, noting that it is presently <br /> under study. <br /> ADJOURNMENT <br /> M/S: Stangel/Chandler to adjourn to 4:00 p.m., Monday, September 8, 1980 <br /> in the City Manager's office, for executive session regarding labor <br /> relations.
