Letter from Retail Clerks Local No. 775, Jack Smith, author of the subject letter
tara United Food and Commercial Workers Inter- asked Council to direct staff to prepare an
national Union (UFCW) re Unit Price Marking ordinance for food stores requiring item
pricing. Mr. Smith described the need for
item pricing, cited surveys which suggest
citizens favor retaining it; and listed
cities and counties which have adopted such
ordinances.
Discussion followed and Mr. Smith replied to
questions concerning a need for item pricing
and acknowledged that he is unaware of any
store in Redwood City which presently uses
only the electronic scanner he opposes.
CONSENSUS: Mayor Biagi determined it to be
the consensus of Council that staff should
investigate the matter of item pricing,
including enforcement of any such require-
ments, and review the ordinances of other
jurisdictions.
