7.1.C. - Page 2 <br /> 5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamation - American Red Cross Month 2015 - Clara Munley, <br /> Leadership Council Member, San Mateo County - Jeffrey Gee, Mayor <br /> Mayor Gee presented a proclamation to Ms. Munley and he spoke about the value this <br /> organization has provided to the Redwood City community. He thanked Ms. Munley for <br /> all her efforts. Ms. Munley in turn thanked Mayor Gee for recognizing the value of this <br /> organization and in particular she thanked the volunteers from Redwood City who <br /> support its efforts. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Amanda Folena, Artistic Director for Broadway by the Bay, spoke about their latest <br /> production "Les Mis" (Les Miserables) that just opened at Fox Theatre. She invited <br /> everyone to come and noted that their mission is to inspire, educate, and engage the <br /> community and local talent through the power of musical theatre. <br /> Diana Reddy, representing the Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County, <br /> spoke about how this organization works with leaders to provide affordable housing and <br /> she her own comments on housing choices available. She spoke in favor of rent <br /> stabilization as an effective strategy and opined that rent stabilization does not <br /> discourage development. <br /> Susan Brown representing a new organization called the Peninsula Literacy Coalition <br /> explained its mission which is to help local schools equip every child with the essential <br /> skills of reading, writing, and communication by the end of third grade. She introduced <br /> Library Board Member Janet Lawson, Ms. Janet Borgens, and Chaplain Logie as Board <br /> Members and they announced an upcoming event on March 18th between 10 am to 12 <br /> noon at the District Board room with Dr. John Baker (Deputy Superintendent at <br /> Redwood City School District) being the presenter. <br /> Mayor Gee expressed the Council's thanks for this information and update. <br /> 7. CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Items on the Consent Calendar are considered to be routine and will be enacted by one <br /> motion and one vote. <br /> CITY COUNCIL: Waive reading of the consent calendar and the full text of ordinances <br /> and resolutions, and approve the Consent Calendar items. <br /> M/S Aguirre/Bain to approve the Consent Calendar as presented. Motion carries <br /> unanimously by electronic vote. <br /> 1. Section - Motion(s) <br /> A.
