7.1.F. - Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
May 18, 2015
SUBJECT
Confirm Complete Streets Advisory Committee (Pilot) Composition
RECOMMENDATION
Confirm Complete Streets Advisory Committee's (Pilot) composition which is to include:
-a total of five members with the option of the fifth member being either a resident of
unincorporated Redwood City or an employee of a Redwood City business
BACKGROUND
At its City Council meeting of January 26, 2015, the City Council received a "Complete
Streets Update..." report, from staff.
The formation of a Complete Streets Advisory Committee was approved by the City
Council. The Council discussed in detail the composition of the committee expressing
various opinions on composition and size of the committee. The discussion included
the option of including residents from unincorporated areas or considering applicants
who are employed in Redwood City. The possibility of enlarging the size of the
committee to seven members, at the end of the two-year pilot, was something the
Council directed staff to do at the end of the two-year pilot.
The outcome of the discussion was that the City Council authorized forming a Complete
Streets Advisory Committee made up of five (5) members. The City Council designated
that four members were to be selected from registered voters who are residents of
Redwood City and include the option of one member being from unincorporated
Redwood City or employed in Redwood City.
ANALYSIS
The approved minutes for the meeting of January 26, 2015 contain the following motion:
"M/S Pierce/Aguirre motion to approve staff recommendations #1 and #2. The motion was
amended by the maker and second to have staff look at including Emerald Hills and having no
more than one committee member be from outside of incorporated Redwood City. Motion
carries unanimously by electronic vote with Council Member Foust absent." (excerpt from
approved minutes)
