REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager

June 8, 2015

SUBJECT
Council appointment, by roll call, to the Complete Streets Advisory Committee (two-year
pilot)

RECOMMENDATION
Appoint by roll call, five members to the Complete Streets Advisory Commission, with
the option of the fifth member being either a resident of unincorporated Redwood City or
an employee of a Redwood City business

BACKGROUND

At its City Council meeting of January 26, 2015, the City Council received a report titled
“Complete Streets Update” and approved the creation of a Complete Streets Advisory
Committee. The composition of this Board, Commission and Committee was confirmed
at the City Council meeting of May 18, 2015.

ANALYSIS

Staff began recruitment for the five seats committee on March 4, 2015 and the process
ran through March 31, 2015. The usual means of outreach were used including: news
releases, e-blasts, banners through town, at the Council meetings, and NextDoor.

The City Council hosted an Open House for prospective applicants on March 23, 2015
prior to the Council meeting. The Planning Manager and the Staff Liaison to this
committee were present at this event and the Open House was well attended.

By the end of the recruitment period, staff had received 17 applications for Council
consideration. The City Council reviewed all the applications between April 2 and April
16 and all seven Council Members provided their selections of who they wanted to
interview to the City Clerk. Those applicants who were selected by four Council
Members were invited to be interviewed. Out of the seventeen applicants the City
Council selected 14 applicants (82.3%) to interview.

The interviews took place on May 4, 2015 and all fourteen applicants were in
attendance with one participating via telephone.
8.A. - Page 1
