EXHIBIT "A"
SCOPE OF SERVICES AND FEE
In order to determine the type of foundation to use for the Redwood Shores Community
Branch Library, it is required to perform additional geotechnical services. To evaluate
preloading the Redwood Shores Community Branch Library site with surcharge fill, the
consultant will:
1. Perform two 20-foot deep borings with portable drilling equipment from the top of
the existing levee to provide additional information for evaluating embankment
stability and foundation conditions.
2. Estimate primary and secondary consolidation settlements due to the weight of
new fill and the amount of surcharge fill required to reduce post construction
primary and secondary consolidation settlement to a structurally tolerable range.
3. Estimate vertical (wick) drain spacings and depths. (Vertical or wick drains are
geotextile strips installed to promote drainage and accelerate consolidation
settlements. )
4. Using site grading information and bottom of waterway information provided to
us, evaluate the potential stability effects on the existing levee and the new fill
embankment adjacent to the levee.
5. If levee and embankment stability are found to be satisfactory, provide
geotechnical recommendations for surcharge fill elevations, wick drains an
spacing, geotechnical instru mentation and monitoring of surcharge fill
construction, and mat foundation design.
Fixed Fee to complete Geotechnical Report - $8,630.00
* * *
3
._~..
