Section 5: Proposed Scope & Techniques 14
Annotation
Annotation for conduits, electroliers, etc will be captured as a separate phase after the feature attributes are
entered into the appropriate tables. We actually have a relatively elaborate method to post and recapture
formatted attributes as annotation subclasses using a combination of AutoCAD Map and ArcInfo.
Annotation characteristics will be tested before conversion during the initial phase of the project. Sample
output files are included in Appendix A.
Street Name and Address Annotation
We propose to use the data we have already built for the Redwood City Engineering Department.
Annotation will be edited as necessary so that street names are shown on every map atlas sheet and text
conflicts are avoided. An example of this data is included on sample sheet SL38 in Appendix A.
The addresses will be adjusted to fit the new parcel base map and captured as an annotation subclass of the
parcel coverage. Multiple addresses per parcel are supported. The same annotation characteristics as used
for the fire department will be used which is: 1) labels are oriented perpendicular to the fronting street and
approximately 20', appropriate for 50 and 100 scale mapping applications. The data will not be feature
linked and will not be validated against other data sources. If the City is interested in these tasks, they can
be discussed as follow-on work.
Preparation of Hardcopy and Digital 50 Scale Atlas-Sheets
A City standard title sheet for 50 scale map products will be prepared in hardcopy and digital forms. Street
names will be positioned based on the City's atlas sheet grid and so that names are not truncated so that all
streets within a map sheet are positioned and named. PDF documents will be prepared for each system with
an index so that any user with a laptop or PC can view and print the files using Adobe' Acrobat reader.
Lynx Technologies City of Redwood City Street Lighting GIS Project
-.
