I . I . -

Chance attendees don't always get booked, but the City's costs are still there in the $78,000
L amount paid to First Chance (on annual basis).....can we charge the attendees the $165.36 or
whatever the proration would be?"
MEMO 4/9/96
Police Chief Bolanos introduced Sergeant Scott Warner, and said the City does not
charge booking fees to arrestees either, and the legalities of that issue would have to be
researched.
City Attorney Schricker said "there was a fair probability we could. I would have to
check specifically....! think there is a Steering Committee established under this agreement
and it may well be that that Committee may want to look at that...I assume there is a
uniform program under this agreement where each of the cities charge for the same thing."
Police Chief Bolanos said that "sometimes the work that goes into processing everyone
who gets booked and trying to recover those costs could be greater than the amount of
monies that you recover....! will look into it." In response to Mayor Hartnett's request for
information on what was practical and what was possible, Police Chief Bolanos said he was
currently studying fees and costs in his department for the budget process and he would
include an analysis of this program's fees in that report.
MEMO 4/9/96
Vice Mayor Howard said she was impressed with the time saved by tlJis program allowing
l....., police officers to spend less time filling out forms and more time back out on patrol. She
asked that information regarding time saved be included in the report.
MEMO 4/9/96
Councilman Leipzig said it was a good program and he was "only interested in looking at
the possibility of tlJose who were lucky enough to go this program rather tlJan next door
Gail), paying these costs for the City of Redwood City."
MIS: LA BERGEIRUSKIN.
