Council Subcommittee on Public Safety recommends that the City Council approve the <br /> construction and staffing of a fire station at Redwood Shores using existing Redwood <br /> City personnel. (209) <br /> Alternatives Studied by Subcommittee. <br /> 1) Provide fire services to Redwood Shores by utilizing existing Fire Department <br /> personnel and increasing Fire Department overtime to fund same; <br /> 2) Provide fire service to Redwood Shores by continuing to contract with South County <br /> Fire Authority; <br /> 3) Provide fire service to Redwood Shores by contracting with Menlo Park Fire <br /> Protection District to staff Fire Station 11, and utilize Station 11 personnel to staff <br /> the Redwood Shores station. <br /> REPORT: Fire Chief, April 1, 1996 <br /> Letter submitted by the Redwood City Firefighters, April 11, 1996. <br /> Councilwoman Buchan, Chair of the Council Subcommittee on Public Safety, <br /> encouraged her fellow committee members and the audience to join in the discussion. <br /> Councilwoman Buchan presented a summary of the City's efforts to address fire safety <br /> issues in the Redwood Shores neighborhood and recent merger discussions with <br /> neighboring fire and medical services providers. Councilwoman Buchan described the <br /> public meetings held on this issue, the discussions surrounding the aforementioned <br /> alternatives, the recent proposal for a permanent station staffed with existing personnel <br /> presented by the Redwood City Firefighters funded through mandatory overtime, and the <br /> request for a temporary fire station. <br /> Councilwoman Buchan advised that the Council Subcommittee, Mayor Hartnett, <br /> Councilman Ruskin and herself, recommended Option Number 1: build a permanent fire <br /> facility in Redwood Shores utilizing existing Fire Department personnel with a minimum <br /> MINUTE BOOK NÒ. 54 Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> Page No. 186 April 15. 1996 <br /> Page 4 <br />
