I . - <br /> <br /> Motion failed on the following roll call vote. <br /> AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS BUCHAN, HOWARD AND LEIPZIG <br /> I NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS CLAIRE, LA BERGE, RUSKIN AND <br /> L- <br /> MAYOR HARTNETT <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 96-104 <br /> 2) MIS: LEIPZIG/CLAIRE TO APPROVE OPTION D1 (Replace 28 planters and <br /> save all the trees) AND DIRECT STAFF TO LOOK AT THE PLANTER <br /> BOXES AND TREES THAT ARE SALVAGEABLE AND THEY HAVE THE <br /> DISCRETION TO REMOVE A TREE IF THEY DEEM IT PRUDENT <br /> Councilman Ruskin asked that a friendly amendment be added to the above Motion: <br /> "The staff be asked to look into whether any planters should now be removed because the <br /> constriction to commercial walking is so severe, that it might be advisable to remove a <br /> planter for that reason." <br /> Councilmen Leipzig and Claire, the mover and seconder of the Motion, agreed to add the <br /> amendment as stated. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 96-105 <br /> Councilman La Berge asked the mover and seconder of the Motion if they intended that <br /> staff come back to the Council before a tree is cut down on Broadway. The mover and <br /> seconder agreed to that provision. <br /> - <br /> In response to Council questions, City Manager Everett said the intention of Option D I, <br /> the Motion on the floor, was to replace all the planter boxes at one time, with certain <br /> common sense decisions. <br /> RESTATEMENT OF THE MOTION BY MAYOR HARTNETT: <br /> MIS: LEIPZIG/CLAIRE TO DIRECT STAFF THAT IN PRINCIPLE, WE WILL REPLACE <br /> 28 OF THE PLANTERS, THE TREES WILL REMAIN IN THEM, AND WE WISH TO HAVE <br /> STAFF RECOMMEND TO THE COUNCIL WHETHER OR NOT SOME OF THE TREES <br /> OUGHT TO BE REPLACED THAT ARE IN THOSE PLANTERS EITHER BECAUSE OF <br /> PHYSICAL PROBLEMS OR PROBLEMS WITH THE PLANTERS; THE STAFF WILL <br /> RECOMMEND TO THE COUNCIL WHETHER ANY PLANTERS THEMSELVES OUGHT <br /> TO BE REMOVED SIMPLY BECAUSE WHERE THE PLANTERS ARE LOCATED IN <br /> CONNECTION WITH THE BUSINESSES ON BROADWAY, AND IT WILL BE THE <br /> COUNCIL'S ULTIMATE DECISION ON ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM SIMPLY <br /> REMOVING OR REPLACING THE 28 PLANTERS. <br /> CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS ROLL CALL VOTE. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 96-106 <br /> L _n____------------------------------------------------__nn______------------nn..------------------------------___n-- <br /> MINUTE BOOK NO.54 <br /> Regular Meeting Minutes Page ¡'¡O. 237 <br /> May 13, 1996 <br /> Page 14 <br />
