. . I . .

Councilman Leipzig said Councilman Claire had made a good point regarding the
Mezes Project. He said "It is difficult to say to a prospective tenant 'we'll have a building
',-- here for you, it will be beautiful, and it will be built in a year.' The economy is doing so
well in Redwood City and in San Mateo County that they need it today....Again, the
highest and best use is not the School District in that building. I would like us to save
that project at all costs. Let's look at the Redevelopment Agency. That's why it is there,
to do that."
Councilman Buchan said "I can give conceptual approval to this draft budget." She
asked for further discussion on the Economic Development Strategies and an update on
the Rolison Road project. Councilwoman Buchan stated that the Mezes Project was
critical to economic development in the downtown. She asked for further data on the
other projects/ programs listed, such as the Retail Anchor program; and said she had no
problem with the proposed 11th Amendment of the Bond Issue.
Mayor Hartnett said the Council would look forward to a spirited debate during the July
29 study session.
City Manager Everett said the Council will see the budget on July 1 and "we will
asterisk ....a lot of projects, all of which are contingent upon further study of the
Economic Development PIan....which will need further review by (the Council), knowing
we can amend the budget of the Redevelopment Agency at any time."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
9.
