I . I . -
Vice Mayor Howard described her twelve-year long friendship with Mayor Greenalch
and thanked him for his inspirational leadership.
- The assemblage gave Mayor Greenalch a standing ovation.
Mayor Greenalch thanked the Council for the proclamation and described his and his
wife Barbara's new project - keeping Wellesley Crescent Park clean. Mayor Greenalch
told the Council he had to leave the Council meeting at this point in order to return to the
Redwood City 2000 meeting in the Library.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------______n__--__---------n______-----
2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
A. Herb Link, 283 Fulton Street, Redwood City, expressed his concerns regarding the
crowded intersections at James and El Camino, Brewster and El Camino, and Whipple and
EI Camino and suggested the intersections be posted with "a Keep Clear" sign.
Mr. Link said the City was doing a good job with the James Street widening and sewer
replacement. He asked that all utilities be placed underground during the current
reconstruction on James Avenue and that good asphalt be used.
Councilman Ruskin, Chairman of the Streets Committee, advised he would look into the
undergrounding of all utilities.
- MEMO 7/16/96
B. Jack Socher, 782 Mediterranean Lane, Redwood City, board member of Lakeshore
Townhomes Association, asked Council to authorize an arterial stop sign on Shell
Parkway and Davit Lane. He said the residents of the Redwood Shores neighborhood had
been promised a traffic study regarding that area, but it has not been received. Mr. Socher
submitted a letter he and his wife had FAXed to Michael Vroman, the City's Assistant
Traffic Engineer. Mr. Socher said he and his wife will be contacting other associations to
join with them to ask for more stop signs.
Mayor Hartnett referred this matter to the Redwood City Traffic Committee and asked
the City Manager to provide an update at the next Council meeting.
MEMO 7/16/96
C. Jeffrey Schabowski, 423A Duane Street, lifelong resident of Redwood City, said he read
an article in the newspaper stating that Redwood City did not have an outside budget
auditor. He advised that Palo Alto used such an auditor and was able to save a half million
dollars. Mr. Schabowski said he had a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and offered
his services to the City. Mr. Schabowski asked to meet with staff to consider the
feasibility of such a project, and to see if a review and analysis of the budget is warranted.
: He added, "If you request, I could assemble a petition or a ballot measure, but I feel that
L- would be very inappropriate."
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING WLY 15, 1996
MINUTES MINUTE BOOK NO. 54 PAGE 2
Page No. 374
