-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
A. Jeanne Roehm, 2474 Palm Avenue, member of the Aqua Terra Committee, a multi-
governmental agency group cleaning-up Redwood City waterways, asked Council to adopt
an ordinance regulating live-aboard conditions on boats located in those waterways outside
the Marina areas. Mrs. Roehm advised San Jose is considering such an ordinance for the
Milpitas area and that could impact additional live-aboard situations in Redwood City.
Mayor Hartnett referred this item to the Council's Legislative Committee.
MEMO 12/20/95
B. Redwood City Police Officer Gil Granado described last year's Fire Department and
Police Department Christmas Toy and Book Drive and delivery of toys, books and turkeys
to 200 Redwood City families. Officer Granado advised Council that they had promised
themselves they would increase their deliveries to 400 families in 1995. They have
enough toys and books but are 150 turkeys short. He added that they need the money for
150 turkeys or approximately $1,200 by Thursday morning.
MIS: BUCHAN/CLAIRE ADD CONSIDERATION OF THE FAIR OAKS TURKEY FUND
DRIVE TO THE AGENDA AS AN ACTION ITEM BASED ON THE LIMITED TIME
REMAINING FOR RECEIVING DONATIONS (9:00 AM., THURSDAY, DECEMBER 21,
1995.)
CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE.
MINUTE ORDER NO. 95-262
MIS: BUCHAN/CLAIRE TO DONATE $500 FROM CITY RESERVES TO THE
FAIR OAKS TURKEY FUND.
Councilman Leipzig stated he would like to see the community and possibly individual
Council Members get involved. Councilman Leipzig said that as worthwhile a project as
this is "it is not the area the City should become involved in."
Councilwoman Buchan stated she planned to support the drive with her own personal
funds, but added that it was a very important gesture for the City to make to support this
great effort by the Redwood City Police and Fire Departments.
Vice Mayor Howard stated she supported a matching funds concept and asked the
community to support this fund raising drive. She stated she would support it with her
own donation, and said the City's donation of $500 was easily justified as it was a "more
bang for your buck" effort and result.
Councilman Leipzig offered a compromise: "Why don't the seven Council Members
donate $500 to the drive and leave the taxpayers out of it."
MINUTE BOOK NO. 53 Special Council Meeting Minutes
Page No. 482 December 19, 1995
Page 2
