Councilwoman La Berge advised that she had discussed her concerns with Director Light
about what will happen when the 30-year lease term is up, Director Light talked with
County Counsel who advised that the County would be in favor of a letter that would not
necessarily be binding, but would express an interest in discussing negotiating a new
agreement at the end of the 30-years.
Councilman Sanfilipo recommended that the thirty-year lease include the City's right to
first refusal.
Vice Mayor Hartnett suggested letting County Counsel know that the City wanted
assurances that the library could stay in that same place longer than the proposed 30-year
lease; and that negotiations should open around the 20-25 year period of the lease when
the dynamics and environment may be radically different than today. Vice Mayor Hartnett
stated the City needed language in the lease, not a letter which may, after 20-25 years
become separated from the agreement and not be found. Vice Mayor Hartnett added that a
right of first refusal will not legally provide the City with what it wants.
TITLE READ.
