EPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager April 22, 2002 Subject Purchase of One Turf Utility Vehicle Recommendation By motion, authorize the purchase of one turf utility vehicle in the amount of $19,108.29 from Turf & Industrial Equipment of Santa Clara, California. Background The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department currently has a 1992 turf utility vehicle which has exceeded its useful life and is scheduled for replacement. Staff from Equipment Services and Parks, Recreation and Community Services held an on-site demonstration of the John Deere Pro-Gator utility vehicle and agreed, this unit best meets the needs of the user department. Written bids were requested from two authorized distributors and are summarized as follows; Turf & Industrial Equipment Santa Clara, CA $19,108.29 Reed Equipment Stockton, CA $19,147.04 This utility vehicle is used primarily at the Red Morton Community Center for playground and ball field maintenance, special projects and maintenance of open park space. Alternative Do not approve the purchase of this replacement utility vehicle and continue to use existing vehicle. However, due to its current age and'condition, it would not be economically sound to invest in the continued repair of this vehicle. Fiscal Impact Funds for the purchase of this turf utility vehicle was approved and appropriated by the City Council in the FY 2001/02 Equipment Replacement Fund Budget in the amount of $15,630. The remaining balance of $3,478.29 will initially be financed from retained earnings in the Equipment Replacement Fund. This amount will be subsequently recovered from the operating budget of the user department through vehicle replacement charges in future years.
